ABOUT ZKIDS NEWS

Z-Kids News is a kids’ news programme produced by Zambia’s MUVI Television. The Programme was started with help from the Netherlands based organization Freevoice’s Kids’ News Network. Zkids News has been described by children as a fresh, entertaining, informative and educative news programme. Z-Kids News started airing on MUVI TV on the 15th of September 2006 and has grown from strength to strength with viewership now estimated at half a million children throughout Zambia. With the expansion of MUVI TV is coverage to the rest of the country via Satellite, Z-Kids News reaches out to more children from different backgrounds and different influences. The aim of the programme is to give Zambian kids from the age of 10 upwards, an opportunity to express themselves and to show off their talents. The news on the programme is about children and for children. It is news that is reduced to a level that children can easily understand. However the programme appeals to adults as well who have described as easy to understand unlike the adult news which most of the times does not explain difficult topics. Z-Kids News is part of a network of similar kids news programmes under the Kids News Network. Other countries in the network are South Africa, The Netherlands, Surinam, Peru, Indonesia, Mozambique, The Dutch Caribbean Islands and Burma. Z-kids News is produced by a team of young Zambian journalists who underwent extensive training in children’s news reporting. The programme airs from Monday to Saturday at 16:45 hours with a review of the week on Sundays at 16:30 hours.
