Zambia is one the poorest countries in the world
Because of this the United Nations has put-up goals called Millennium Development Goals-MDGs-. These goals are eight and that these poor countries should achieve them before the year 2015.
One of the goals is that of making sure every Zambia Child get better education. But this is still very difficult for Zambia. This is because most of the countries in the country have no desks and proper classrooms. This is Chipata basic school. Pupils at this school don’t have desks to sit and are forced to sit on the floor.
This has affected their performance in school. The kids are asking the government to help their school buy desks. And Mandevu Member of Parliament, Jean Kapata said her office will use about 76-million-kwacha to help buy desks at the school.
It our hope that desks will soon be bought for the school.
Play and Sport is very important
Children at Achievers School have not had play and sports at their school for some time now. This is why Education through Sports-EDUSPORT-has decided to give footballs to the school to help promote Play and Sport at the school.
An official from EDUSPORT, Gregory Shikumbelo explained. And an official at the school says this will help the country promote sport and play at the school.
Children at the school are also happy with the development.
ENIRVOMENT DAY
Burning things in the open and cutting down of trees are affecting our weather in a bad way.
By burning things in the open we make our environment dirty with smoke.
Changes in the weather or Climate change has led to problems like floods which have damaged crops and left people without food and homes.
It is for this reason that these people are today, meeting at the Lusaka Museum to celebrate the World Environment Day.
This year’s theme is” Kick the habit” towards a low Carbon Economy.
This simply means that we need to reduce the amount of carbon that we release into the air.
Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources, Todd Chilembo says something needs to be done to make sure that we reduce the amount of carbon into the air.
And United Nations Development Programme-UNDP-country Representative, Aeneas Chuma says everyone make sure that our environment is clean.
Pupils taking part in the celebrations now explain what they learnt during the celebrations.
The Environment affects you and me, lets therefore get involved in protecting our environment.
SIMON KAPWEPWE
This is Lusaka’s Simon Kapwepwe Basic School
It is one of the schools in Lusaka, which does not have a play ground for its pupils. Pupils at the school say they also need a play ground where they can play games.
They’re now calling on their school management to do something about it saying playing is very important for every child.
The School will tomorrow start training for the Inter-schools sports competition on a ground near the Railway line, which some pupils say is not good.
Tembeukani is a Chewa word, which cautions us to change our altitude towards the Environment.
This is what the judges were looking for in the drawings of these young artists.
The works were supposed to send warning messages to people to be responsible over their actions.
