Zambia to send six representatives to the Beijing Olympics
With only 95 days left before the Beijing 2008 Olympic games begin the National Olympics Committee says Zambia will send six representatives in boxing, Judo, Swimming, badminton and athletics.
We spoke to Mrs. Irene Moyo, who is in charge of the Olympic games and she told us more about Zambia’s team and the Olympic games in general.
We hope that the identification of talent will be done at a young age so that we can have many sports men and women participating in the Olympic games and winning gold medals.
With the Olympic games, news coming in from China says the Olympic flame today officially began its "Journey of Harmony" on the Chinese mainland from Sanya after touring 19 cities on five continents and China's Hong Kong and Macao regions.
Starting from Phoenix Island's Olympic Square, a new landmark in Sanya City, Olympic short track skating champion Yang Yang was handed the torch by Wei Liucheng, secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and ran the first part of the relay, which will head to 112 other cities on the Chinese mainland.
At 7 o'clock, crowds of people gathered at the square, waving Chinese flags and cheering for the Olympic sacred flame.
A total of 208 torchbearers will run through the 30.09 km route that will end at the scenic spot of Tianya Haijiao.
The announcement of presidential results in Zimbabwe not well received
After more than a month of waiting the presidential results in Zimbabwe were finally announced. But no one has been declared winner because according to the laws of Zimbabwe for one to win the elections, they must win 51 percent or more of the votes, which is more than half of the votes.
From the announced results, Morgan Tsvangirai was first with 47 percent, while Robert Mugabe was second with 43 percent.
The other candidate Simba Makoni got 8 percent while the fourth candidate Langton Towungana got 0.6 percent.
This now means voting has to be done again.
But Morgan Tsvangirai and his party are still not decided on whether to participate in the second round of the elections.
They have accused Robert Mugabe of cheating.
If they decide not to participate then Robert Mugabe will automatically be the winner.
The run off elections are expected to be held soon.
Robert Mugabe and his party, ZANU PF have agreed to participate in the run off elections.
So we all wait and see what will happen in Zimbabwe.
We take a look at how journalists celebrated World Press Freedom Day
3rd May is a special day for journalists. It’s World Press Freedom. And yesterday journalists from different media organisations gathered at the freedom statue after marching from the Post office.
3rd May is a day set aside to recognize and appreciate the work that journalists do.
It is also a day for journalist to share ideas on how best they can do their job.
Journalists have rights, like the right to collect information. On this day, journalists also demand for their rights to be respected.
But above all that it’s also a day of fun and excitement. Young people also joined in the celebrations. Great Day for the journalists there and of course we were also part of the celebrations and we promise to keep on giving you the best in news.
