Young people meet to look at global crisis in Lusaka
The second Youth Symposium has started meeting in Lusaka. Youths from all the nine provinces are attending the meeting.
The young people are looking at ways of addressing the issues of global recession and its impact on them.
The symposium being held under the theme 'Youth Empowerment in the Global Crisis: Zambia's Response' has attracted more than 100 youths from across the country.
Speaking when he officially opened the meeting, PRESIDENT, Rupiah Banda urged the youth to be agents of national unity.
President Banda said in a speech read on his behalf by Sports, Youth and Child Development minister Kenneth Chipungu.
The President was seeking the lead status in the Youth Employment Network so that it could access benefits provided by the United Nations, the World Bank and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
ILO country director, Gerry Finnegan who spoke on behalf of UN systems in Zambia said the global crisis had prevented school-leavers and young university graduates from getting employment.
And Young people at the Conference are happy that they are given a chance to talk about things affecting them.
